On Saturday, a massive stampede occurred at the New Delhi Railway Station. The crowd crush took place at Platform 14 during the announcement for Prayagraj Express. At least 18 people have been killed due to the stampede.

This is the third stampede recorded during the Maha Kumbh 2025, and several concerns have been raised regarding the overall management of all. However, this incident at New Delhi Railway Station is a flashback to the 2013 Allahabad Railway Station disaster.

What Happened In 2013?

In 2013, a massive stampede at the now Prayagraj Railway Station resulted in the deaths of 42 people.

Initial reports suggested that the stampede occurred after a railing on the footbridge at the station collapsed.

However, eyewitnesses stated that the stampede was triggered after railway police charged with wooden sticks towards the crowd in order to "control the rush".

At total of 42 people were killed, including 29 women, 12 men, and an eight-year-old girl. Along with this,hot646 around 45 people were injured in the incident.

Recalling The Recent Stampedes At Maha Kumbh 2025

On January 29, 2025, a massive stampede occurred at the Maha Kumbh mela. The first crowd crush resulted in the death of 30 people and injured around 90 people.

However, a second crowd crush also took place, which killed around seven people including a three-year-old child.

The official death toll over this stampede remains disputed. While the UP government and police officials have confirmed 30 deaths and stated that 30 bodies were recovered, eyewitnesses and devotees on the ground stated that the toll has much higher than what was being claimed.

As per a Newslaundry report, the death toll is expected to be around 79 people. With the dispute also causing opposition sloganeering in the Parliamentpara manalo, questions have been raised over the government's handling of the festival and incident.
